The MHI Journey Continues…

  •
    • Within our community, our Commerce City Rotary Club-Mental Health Initiative has a strong alliance with the county’s behavioral health center, Community Reach Center, providing education through Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) classes to Adams County residents.
      • Community churches are collaborating with Rotary and our behavioral health center to provide MHFA classes to parish members and Spanish community
      • A new veteran mental health program is currently being developed that will assist with Mental Health education for veterans and families plus awareness events
      • In partnership with Adams 14 School District’s Division of Social Emotional Learning and Mental Health, Rotary MHI, contributed to the development of a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
      • Designed and published teaching tools and resource materials for parents to better understand the comprehensive approach to school based social/emotional wellness, behavioral and mental health support for students and their families.  These tools provide access to the continuum of support beginning with the promotion of social/emotional wellness and early intervention for all students.
  • Will expand the CCRC-MHI Website that will increase the visibility within the community including a segment “Just for Vets and their Families” with an anti-stigma messaging campaign.
  • Outreach into international Rotary Clubs to provide several Webinars on How a Local Club can ignite their own mental health initiative and provide Mental Health First Aid in their community.
  •
  • We created, printed and distributed 30,000 mental health resource and awareness information cards and 150 holders in English and Spanish.
    • The Adams Co Food Bank receives 3,000 cards every two months
    • 10 medical clinics provided their patients with mental health information through the cards
    • Churches use the holders and cards in their information centers
    • 7500 cards were placed in the School District’s Back-to-school registration packets.
    • MHI members provided booth information at 32 metro-community events this past year
    •
  • Outreach to other Rotary clubs and organizations:
    • CCRC provided MHI presentations to 40+ Clubs in D5450, D5440 and D5000 - Several D5450 clubs are in various development stages of mental health projects including creating of their own MH resource card for their community.
    • The MHI manned an exhibit booth at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, GA in June 2017. The task force had the distinct opportunity and pleasure of speaking directly with over 360 Rotarians from 35 different countries that visited the exhibit.
    •
  • In the past three years, CCRC-Mental Health Initiative has been awarded:
    • Four matching grants from Rotary International
    • Two community foundation grants from the city and utility power company
    • Several individual donations
    • The Commerce City Rotary Club received the “Rotary International Significant Achievement Award” for 2015-2016 providing worldwide and Rotary wide recognition for the CCRC-MHI.
    •

Perhaps and most importantly, the CCRC-MHI has the first reported, evidenced based case where one life was saved utilizing the crisis interventions information contained on the mental health resource and awareness information cards distributed within the community.

Efforts in mental health and wellness by Rotarians CAN and WILL preserve life, prevent further harm, promote resiliency and provide comfort and support to those desperately in need.
